Boston Dynamics has unveiled new capabilities of its humanoid robot Atlas. This time, the robot went beyond lifting boxes — it performed a full-on breakdance routine.
Atlas is no longer just following pre-programmed commands; it can now adapt to its environment and learn through experience. This marks a major leap, positioning it as a strong competitor among humanoid robots.
To teach Atlas how to dance, an operator wears a motion-capture suit that transmits human body movements directly to the robot’s learning model. This enables Atlas to mimic, analyze, and improve its own motions.
The humanoid can now regain balance, execute quick spins, and pause movements with precision. Boston Dynamics highlights that this breakthrough was achieved in collaboration with the Institute of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence.
